VCLEX0877 Sony Wide Conversion Lens Query

I just picked up this add-on yesterday for my EX1, just a few queries about it if anyone can help. By the way I am not a DOP, rather a director who shoots a lot, so please be understanding. I have a week-long comedy shoot coming up in a few weeks.

The Wide Converter setting in the menus doesn't seem to be doing anything noticeable to the image when I turn it on or off, at any zoom point... is it so subtle this is to be expected? Perhaps something was changed in a firmware? Mine is not updated since Jan 2008..

The clarity seems great, and the CA is pretty much gone on this once I get to Z7, which strikes me as pretty good!

So the big question is why I would remove it, given that I have no Letus or the like?

1. Long distance shooting zoomed right in
2. Using a polarising filter
3. Don't want close-up Z0 face distortion ala 'Brazil' (love the phone scenes)..
4. Even greater weight imbalance on the front end causes chronic wrist issues in later life

Anything else? Hope this isn't too basic for you all..

The wide angle adapter will have a certain amount of chromatic aberration and when you turn on the wide angle conversion switch in the EX menu the camera will access a L.U.T. (look up table) and effectively bring the colours back into proper alignment. In other words, its the software correcting for the hardware.

Turn it on when you have the WA adapter on and turn off the function when the adapter is off the camera.

Thanks for the reply.

So it's not correcting the image aberration at all, just the colours? I can't see any change in the footage either way, but I'll turn it on when the WA is connected (which looks like being most of the time).

I have the same WA adapter and just make sure the correction is turned "on" when the adapter is in place.

The performance of the adapter is very good, and I seldom take it off. In fact, when I'm in the field, I leave it in place. The only time I ever took it off was in the studio and when it was in an underwater housing.
