B&H has listed the Varizoom Zoom/Rec/Focus/Iris and Focus/Iris controlers on their website!
(They both show "Back ordered" at the moment though)

The "Everything" unit: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?A=details&Q=&sku=413136&is=REG
Price: $260

And the Focus/Iris only unit: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?A=getItemDetail&Q=&sku=413138&is=REG
Price: $190

Given that the HVX200 and the DVX200B both use the same conrol ports, this is actually of interest to both cameras! (but i'm only going to post in this hardware section [what do we do about comon hardware?])

The really good news is that just by looking at the pictures, the controls for Focus and Iris apear to be "Absoloute" - so you could mark your controller wheel with ranges/stops if you wanted to. (Unlike zoom which is "relative")
Varizoom is calling it "Compact" so maybe we'll get a nice big FF remote too in the near future?

Thanks Mikko. This is interesting, even though the controller looks quite (too ?) tiny... The rotating controls look like metal, which I guess is good for sturdiness, but not so good for marking them... Anyway, this is only the first product of its kind and it's certainly cheaper than the Chrosziel FF I'm considering now... Let's wait for the first user reports.

I too am a little supprized at the small size.. but it's in fitting with all their other controllers.

I'm going to hazard a guess that they are using "multiple revolution" potentiomiters. So that it is an absoloute control, but it takes multiple rotations to go from stop to stop.

I'd hope for both a cinematic style version and a Broadcast focus demand (like the canon, with 3 prongs) in the future :)

Pierre,

I'm looking for remote zoom / iris / focus units to use with a varizoom dv rig. Would the Foxi / Zoe be suitable for this or are they really just for tripod mounting?

Hi Forum,

I recently started using the all-in-one Varizoom unit and I'd have to say it does the job pretty well. I use it with my Spiderbrace and it's nice not having to reach up to the lens.

One quick pointer, the item came with the Focus Wheel Upgrade (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/441762-REG/Varizoom_VZPZFIFOCUSWHEEL_PZFIFW_Focus_Wheel_Upgrade.html) already attached even though the page doesn't say or show that it does. So don't spend the 30 bucks to get another one.

Hmm, thats annoying. I already bought and paid for the upgrade wheel and am still waiting for delivery of the unit.

Thanks for the heads-up, cboyes !

Mike

I don't think having the second large wheel is a waste, you can use it for the iris control.
