Varizoom Rock Style Zoom, Focus, Iris control

On another thread I saw Jarred Land got the Varizoom Rock Zoom, Focus, Iris remote controller for the HVX200.

My problem is I want to get the same but I do not yet have the HVX200. So I was wondering would the zoom and/or focus function of the HVX200 Varizoom rock controller work with the DVX100A (not the B) until I get my HVX200 in April.

If someone (I'm thinking of Jarred Land) had the DVX100A and the rock controller for the HVX200 could they try it out and see what function(s) are available. I know the iris control won't work.
I would really appreciate it and probably am not alone.

Thanks

Always good to hear confirmation from someone with a camera and the controller... but the HVX has 2 separate inputs, one for zoom/stop/star and one for iris/focus. The zoom/s/s is specified as compatible with the DVX, so the HVX controller, with only the zoom/s/s plugged in, will give you zoom/s/s on the DVX. DVX(pre-B) can't have remote focus/iris control.

Thanks Ulanta.
As you say it would be great to get confirmation from a user.
I was thinking about asking Varizoom but fearing they would give a "corporate waiver " type answer like "we only guarantee the Rock with the HVX200 etc. etc." whereas in reality the zoom function probably does work with the DVX100.

Its 9:21 AM here in Paris, France. I'll wait till Jarred Land wake's up and see what he has to say.

Send Jarred a PM to ask him.

The thing is, the zoom/start/stop and the focus/iris use different connectors. So if the VZ has one molded plug, you wouldn't be able to plug it straight into the camera.

BUT -- wait, the brainstorm's hitting -- you could just get a small extension cable, and hook up just the zoom part. And in that case I would say that it's exceptionally likely that the VZ would indeed work with the DVX to control zoom/s.s.

Does the rock have two different leads, one for each input?
That would seem logical to match the two inputs on the HVX200.
If that is the case then it should be no problem just plugging in the zoom part.
I'll send Jarred a PM
Thanks Barry

Ah, I never considered THAT possibility! Surmountable, yes, but... someone with a lot of influence should tell the VZ guys NOT to make 1 2-prong connector...!

Do you know if the DVX100B has the same socket spacing as the HVX? If not, I doubt they'd use the single molded plug.

Frankly, I doubt they'd make such a custom molded plug at all... but you never know...

The 100B uses exactly the same spacing, specifically for the reason that they wanted it to be compatible and allow it to use the same zoom/focus/iris connector.

Does anyone know if the focus and irs controls arte abosoloute or relative yet?

If they are absoloute (meanign that they have hard stops and could be marked for distances) they would be much cooler than if they are relative (a 'speed' control, like zoom)

... And of course the follow up question for those with a conreoller all ready: Can you get out a Multimeter and figure out the specks for the pots so we can make our own custom ones?

I have confirmation from Varizoom that it is possible to use the zoom/start/stop function of their Rock controller designed for the HVX200 on the DVX100 until I get my HVX200 in April

So that's one problem settled
