varizoom controller issue

Hi all, just noticed my varizoom won't open up my Lumix lenses greater than f3. Yet switching the controller to auto it immediately flicks into 2.8. I have read this before somewhere but can't find it. 0.2 of a stop is not a life changer but just curious. Any thoughts? Cheers! Rod

thanks Paul - those threads seem to be focused on er-- focus mainly( sorry about that) the aperture thing doesn't seem to be resolved on the varizoom although it is mentioned. Maybe some other users can convey their experiences as well? cheers!Rod

I own the Manfrotto 521 PFI remote controller and it is the same as with the varizoom: I can open the iris of the Lumix 35-100 mm lens only to F3.0. The only remote controller that does not have this issue is the Beebop Foxi, I think.

Rod,

Although the other links discuss focus rather than iris, I suspect the principle is the same. Both are adjusted by varying the resistance in the controller. For whatever reason, the controller doesn't have enough adjustment range. Varizoom likely knows about this. Give them a call.

Weird. I have the Varizoom VZStealthPZFI Throttle Controller (Zoom, focus, iris, s/s) and it opens both the 12-35 and 35-100 all the way to 2.8.

Hi Bobby, OK I have emailed Varizoom and will post their reply here. As I am in New Zealand returning it and customs stuff etc would be prohibitive, so I hope there is an easy fix. I wonder how it would control a Samyang t1.5??

What about focus on the Varizoom VZStealthPZFI Throttle Controller? Does it hold focus when you zoom in and out with the Lumix X 35-100 mm lens? With my Manfrotto remote controller it happens very often that it looses focus, when I zoom. Without remote controller, I can zoom in and out as often as I wish, without loosing focus.

My 35-100 always loses focus when I zoom, regardless if I am using the VariZoom or not. You must have the only parfocal 35-100 out there! :cheesy:

Hi Guys, Well some stuff to report: Varizoom came back to me very promptly and told me it was a quirk with the lens/ camera combination. Ok, but on a shoot today using both the 12-35 f2.8 and the 35-100 2.8, the Varizoom opened them both fully to 2.8!! no idea why- nothing changed- I had tried all variations of settings and can't replicate the f3.00 minimum. So , happy bunny but I wish I knew what was going on ! Mysteries really hack me off!!Cheers! Rod

Or, you have the only non-parfocal 35-100 lens! When you have focus to manual, the 35-100 should be parfocal.
