Varicam ROP App

Is it just "the side panel" or is it like the Sony and does the "side panel" and allows you to dive into the (almost)full menu?

Haven't Tried it yet, I'm in the middle of a project. I am hoping to get to use it this weekend. I'll let you know...but if someone else gets to this before me, they'll probably post it here

There is one for the DVX?

Side note: Do you think they would offer support for the HDC27 Varicam?

No Sir. The 27 is well over a decade old(closer to 15 years old!). They had already been out several years and were on the second version when I bought mine in '06.

Honestly, something like that wouldn't really be necessary. Besides the deep paint menu and variable frame rate, the 27's don't have nearly the number of things that can be changed on the 35 and LT(and even the 2700). On the 27 there is no codec to change, only one rez, no LUT's, no LOG, no RAW... After it's set with a scene file/look, it's a pretty damn simple camera to operate. In the field, the only thing I ever really did was hop back and forth between two scene files: one for 60 frame "video" and one for 24 frame "film". Pop a tape in and roll ; )

I bought the Panasonic AJ-WM50P dongle as well. When looking into the user documentation for it, from a first glance, there seems to be a bit of configuration that needs to be done, it's not like any other Bluetooth control dongle I have used before (like WM-Connect on the Sound Devices 6-Series recorders or Zoom F8), am on a shoot over the weekend, will report back once I have configured it and figured things out.

There are many different modes through which a remote connection can be achieved with the LT.

Since I am using the AJ-WM50P dongle, I used WLAN. The LT comes with a default SSID & Password (so it functions as a WiFi router with 2.4GHz / 5GHz transmission frequency based on the dongle type).
The iPad / iPhone can then connect to the camera over a WiFi connection (just like how you would log into any other WiFi connection, you will have to select the network ID and password).
Once connected almost all functions can be controlled remotely from that iPad / iPhone device (it emulates the back panel so you can basically use the camera without the backpanel if you need to reduce weight, or make the rig more compact).
I was using an old iPhone 5s (which is dedicated just for device control among all my equipment: both audio / video). Even restarting the camera can be done remotely once settings that require it are made. So you do not have to physically be in front of the camera to do that (which can be great for gimbal, jibs, waterproof/underwater housing etc.)

I had tried to create a new SSID and password and store them in the camera (unlike the default ones mentioned in page: 174 in the users manual) however, each time I restarted the camera these setting were restored to factory values. I am not sure why that is happening, will look into it more as I get familiarized with the LT.

One drawback I noticed by using the camera defaults was that with each restart / power down of the camera, the iPhone / iPad would have to be manually paired with the WiFi connection of the VaricamLT, even if the Panasonic ROP app is running. This can be a bit annoying.
