variable leg spread dolly and tripod combo

is my question that dumb to answer? someone humor me. should i go for the dolly attachment, or should i just go to lowe's or home depot and buy some wheels and attach them that way?

I have used the dolly before and it is absolutely useless unless it is being used on a VERY smooth surface. There is a lot of jitter and there isnt weight in the middle so it really slowed it down. We ended up putting a 10 pound weight in the middle of the dolly but it only helped from keeping the dolly legs from folding up.

Those dollys are only used in a studio situation, rarely (I've never seen one) used in the field.

It's for studio work, and even there only for moving the camera between shots, not for 'on-air' moves.

Check out the DVXUser shop at the top of the main page. You can buy all the wheels you'll need for a track dolly. All you need is a platform and pvc pipe for your track. Or you can build your own from scratch...check out the DIY section.
