F35: Variable Frame Rate recording F35?

Hi guys,

I've got a shoot coming up on the F35, and was hoping to be able to record in a range of frame rates: 8fps, 12fps, 25fps, 32fps, 50fps. Do any of the current recorders support the S&Q framerates on the Sony? Or is it just 25p & 50p to the Odyssey7Q?

Also, what are the white balance options with the camera? Is it just 3200k and 5600k? Or can I get under/over/in-between settings as well?

Cheers,

Mark

Only codex and original sony tape recorder do this frame rates. 7Q and others only 24,25,30,50. WB is 3200 or 5600 preset. But why you shoot F35 and not F5? Did you buy F35?

I feared as much. Bugger :/ thanks for the heads up.

Is anyone using things like 85C filters to set the white balance closer to 4000-4500k? Or just adjusting colour temperatures in post?

We're shooting with the F35 because the director has fallen in love with the look of the old beast (from trawling this wonderful little sub-forum) and wants it for his film. The lack of variable framerates might bite us in the arse a little... but hey, the absence of limitations is the enemy of art!

Maybe rent codex? If 5600 preset is too much orange for you use 85 filter. In cine mode only 5600 and 3200 available. But in custom mode you can use AWB with white card. But I only use cine mode.

I have an F35 with the Codex, I am a little hesitant about renting it out but if you are really wanting S&Q maybe we can work something out.

Srw1 can be found as low as $750. I have one just for variable frame rate. If you want i will rent it to you cheap, send me a PM. You can use 7q to dump tapes to prores.

the white balance can be adjusted in custom mode. You cant dial in the color temp, you need to use a white card and let it auto set white balance. Its kind of a pain but i have a and b saved that are a little warmer and a little cooler from the stock 3200 or 5600.

Thanks guys, really appreciate the offers. I don't think our budget will stretch to shipping a recorder down here to the end of the world and then back to you. But I'll call around the local rental places and see if anyone has a recorder tucked away on a shelf somewhere.

Also, can the camera spit out 10-bit 4:4:4 over a single SDI? Or do you need dual SDI for 4:4:4 regardless of whether it's 10 or 12-bit?

Right, forgot you are in Australia. Good luck with your search.

You can effectively shoot 8fps by shooting 24fps, then playing 3x, no frame blending.
You can effectively shoot 12fps by shooting 24fps, then playing 2x, no frame blending.

The only one on your list that truly requires S&Q is 32fps.

24 FPS with 360 degree shuter is pretty much the same as 12 FPS 180 degree shutter, so not necessarily.
