VARIABLE Color temp setting changed on AF-100 with Ver. 1.5 Firmware

On AF-100 cameras with Ver. 1.5 firmware the VARIABLE setting is no longer available as described in the manual. In the manual it states that by setting the " WB switch to Preset (PRST) and pushing the AWB button, you can step through the white balance values in the following order: 3200K,5600K and VARIABLE. Selecting VARIABLE enables the white balance to be set to an arbitrary value between 2.4K and 9.9K by moving the FUNCTION knob up and down." On my camera this is not correct. Now, due I'm assuming to the new firmware, in order to get to a variable color temp setting you must set the WB switch on Preset and press the AWB button until 3200K is showing in the viewfinder. THEN, by moving the FUNCTION knob up and down you can step through the various color temp settings from 2.4K to 9.9K. The "VARIABLE" designation is no longer available and doesn't show up when switching through the WB choices.

Really? Did the firmware change anything else?, because that seems like an odd one, especially since I'm tuned in to doing it the "old" way.

The VAR is definitely still available, and works like it always did. If your VAR was set on 3200 then it might behave the way you're describing, only if toggling from 3.2K preset to 5.6k preset to 3.2k VAR. But in any case VAR will still show up, on version 1.15.

Make sure that the function joystick is unassigned in the SW menu.

Do you mean the 1.15 firmware - or did a firmware revision slip by with no one here noticing?

(Nothing on the Panasonic Japan site where the previous firmware was posted...)

VARIABLE Color temp setting changed on AF-100 with Ver. 1.5 Firmware

Panasonic called today and we figured out what was happening with my camera. One of the things that they don't mention in the manual is that you have to have the "display settings" on in order for the "VAR" to show up on the right side of the LCD screen. Since I normally don't like to have all the extra information on the screen, I had just the minimal amount showing. When all the information on the LCD screen is showing and the WB switch is set to Preset then the VAR shows up while stepping through the settings using the AWB button. Like I said I'm just learning the camera. Sorry for any confusion.

Excellent point, Bud. I should have caught that from your first question, but I long ago stuck my display settings to "all" so I haven't seen that effect in a long time.
