Vari-ND filters: Anyone used them? What lens sizes do they fit?

I'm looking at purchasing a Singh-Ray Vari-ND filter to help retain shallow depth of field in outdoor locations and cut out some light on the 7D.

My question is, what size do I choose out of 77mm Standard Ring Mount, 77mm Thin Ring Mount or 82mm Standard Ring Mount?

I want for the filter to fit on a wide range of lenses. Which one would be the best to choose to make sure it fits? I will be using a 15-85mm kit lens, Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L, Canon EF 50mm f/1.2 L USM Lens and Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM Telephoto Zoom Lens.

Also, has anyone here used these and found them to be useful?

Thanks.

Unless you plan to buy a lens with an 82mm filter size, 77mm will be large enough. Get step-up rings for lenses with smaller filter sizes.

I'm still on the fence regarding the Singh-Ray Vari-ND filter. I'm awaiting test results in another thread.

Thanks for your reply. Which Canon lenses would have an 82mm filter size? Is there somewhere you can find out what the filter size of each Canon lens is? Thanks.

Thanks again. Just checked the 15-85mm kit lens, and it says that it is 72mm. So if I bought the 77mm size Fader ND, I would need a Step-Down ring so it would work with the 72mm size 15-85mm lens? Correct?
