Holding the function knob down for over two secs is supposed to enable the variable white balance. It's stopped working for me.
Anyone else have this experience? Is there a remedy?
Well, I think you may have a couple of things confused...
You first have to put the camera in PRST white balance. Then you use the AWB button on the front of the camera to go to the VAR setting. Then you use the function knob to change the white balance. But if the function knob is currently performing the AREA function, then you have to hold it in (not down, but pressed in) for a couple of seconds to cancel the "area" function.
