Vancouver Breakdancing Competition

Hey Everyone,

I'm organizing a breaking battle to be held at UBC March 12. The even will be one of the biggest in western canada and I want to document it the best I can. What I am looking for is a secondary DVX, you can either hang out on stage and film the overall battle, or you can get down in the circle with the nitty gritty.

This is my first breakin' event, which I am financing myself so funds are not abundant, I would be able to pay something tho. One benefit I can offer is the use of the footage for any sort of demo reel, or archive you have.

The battle itself is going to be a 3 on 3 with crews from all over the northwest of Canada and the USA entering. I am flying in judges from LA (Lady Jules ex Rock Steady) and Dyzee from Toronto. We are giving away $500 cash as first prize. AMS Events and Red Bull Canada are our main sponsors. (oh, another perk is all the Red Bull you can drink. ;) )

Is anyone interested? I'm not necessarily looking for a super pro-job, as I can't afford pro pay. Someone with a creative mind, and a desire to get into the thick of things and build a reel would be perfect.

PM me if you are interested. If you are curious to see what kind things guys are doing these days ... click here.

geez, I just watched that and realised how much everyone looks like just young stupid punks. Anyways, that battle got really agressive, they aren't really so crazy and wild like that.
also you can see how the footage is really pretty much poo. I wanna change there. Good framing, good exposure and 24p.

Anyone in?

Hey,

If I'm available on this day I'd be down to shoot the competition. I've been considering the idea of making a breakdnce documentary so if I could use the footage for that it would be great. Keep me posted on the event — bryant@aspectfilms.ca

Good stuff Colione. Dern crazy kids gonna break their necks. ;)

I seem to remember quite a few Seattle/Vancouver DVX users around this forum. You might poke around to try and search them out.

The footage is not really poo considering the circumstances. I would recommend the guy operating the camera on the floor to reset his iris for the dancers. It seemed like it was on auto or set for the audience. If you have some control over how they stage the lights try and get more light on dancers and less on audience.

Also a third camera dedicated for close-ups might help to make the whole thing more dynamic.

A friendly suggestion, 30P or 60i might be more suited for this type of action and lighting as opposed to 24P. Do some tests.

Good luck, it looks like fun.

I emailed you as I will be available to help with the shoot.

Re: Vancouver Breakdancing Competition

I'm out of town on that day but if you have any future shoots I would be able to help. I've been interested in a meeting of DVX users in Vancouver so we can set up contacts locally for these types of things.
