hello my name is kenji and im writing to you from japan i am kinda new here sorry if this sounds stupid . if im using my vaio laptop to edit movies how can i output it to a broadcasting monitor to see if my cc is good or bad . what i meen is do i use the firewire port or vga and also do broadcasting monitors have those kind of inputs ..once again sorry if its a stupid question and thank you for your time ...

What I would do is buy a firewire to RCA (or BNC) device. Canopus makes some. What it will allow you to do is take the firewire output from your Vaio laptop (assuming it has one) and convert it to an analog signal to input to your monitor.

Something like this will do the trick:

Keep in mind though that this device doesn't have BNC, so your next best option will probably be using the SVHS connection.

Another way to accomplish this is to take the firewire out from your laptop and input it to your DVX or other camera, and then take your RCA's from that and put them into your monitor. In your NLE program in preferences there should be a choice to "preview on external DV device". With this chosen you should be able to get full screen preview on your monitor. Hope this helps and good luck!
