Vacation footage shot on DVX W/ Guerilla35

We are shooting for an out the door cost of under $1500. That incudes mounts and whatnot but not rods. Rods are not required.

Ponder,

I used a magnet to flip the image on the DVX's lcd screen. Focusing is a little tricky but the nice thing is the DVX100a "peaking" feature still works with the adapter.

A "magnet"? How do you use a magnet to flip the screen?

You know how the image in the LCD flips when you turn it all the way to the front so you can film yourself, and the image flips right side up? -- well the magnet fools the lcd into thinking its been turned over when it hasn't so it flips the image.

Or something like that.

You catch me, didn´t know that! So where do I put/move the magnet? is there any post about this?

No idea. That's just what I've read. They give instructions with it and can tell you how to do it, but a refrigerator magnet wont work. It has to be higher powered I think. Also, the image is flipped when you import the footage into your NLE, but in FCP at least, flipping the image is a realtime filter so no rendering.

I've heard that the image is also flipped L to R as well, but not sure about that.

You put a high-powered magnet against your head and the image is flipped in your occipital lobe. :)

Or... flip the LCD screen out and attach a magnet on the outside edge of the screen... on the right side... toward the bottom. The magnet should hold itself in place. This correctly orients the image in all directions, but you might have to set the "selfshoot" menu option to "normal" (this is found under the display setup menu)

Dude thats like super cheap...well..not super cheap..but its pretty damn cheap compared to the Mini 35 adapter...which is like $7000+

I'd definitly buy the G35..thats if its compatible wit HVX.

1.5k is a little pricey. Remember, it doesn't have the pentaprism which is the most expensive item, nor the oscillating ground glass.

Then again, if you have money for the hvx, you have money for this thing. (Although I have doubts about "grainless" focusing screens and HD.)

For comparison, the mini35 is $11,000 for all the necessary parts (but not including any lenses).

And a Mercedes is 110,000 and a Toyota (very reliable good car) is 15K.

The micro35 (class equivalent to the g35) is 875 at entry level and next step up is 1275.

no way I'm paying 1500 for G35 despite quality if I can get a micro35 out the door for 875 (+ 200 for a lens).

I'm getting an HVX when they comeout and will want one or the other with 82mm thread mounts, but it won't be the g35 if both have HVX versions and the g35 price hasn't come down.

jdanstan, have you seen footage with the micro35? I can't dowload .wmv clips from their site so was interested in your thoughts about it.

About Montery footage (.MOV - 16MB version)

Between 00:00:21 and 00:00:24 there is some kind of spot on the low left side of the picture. It is very soft but you can see it moves along with the camera.

Also in 00:00:02 when you see a truck on the right side there is another "spot" on the left upper corner of the highway green sign.

Im wondering if this is a G35 issue or camera lens one

Can anybody report on this?

Thx.

Looks awesome.

I think the g35 may be easier to work with because there's less light loss, but who knows at this point, also with the micro you need another batterty. But for another $150 (two DVX user batteries) I'm guessing you could run that thing for like 10 hours since you can do that withe the DVX and it has to draw less power than the DVX.

G35 and Micro35 seem comparable imagewise IMHO, but sound like the G35 is smaller and has less light loss.

Search DVXuser for "micro35" and you should find some footage.
