V-Mount Battery Help

Hey folks,

This thread will cross over with the FS5 forum but I figured it would be best suited here. I am an A7S owner and have recently purchased a Shogun and a FS5. My A7S is housed in the Tllta A7S cage and my Shogun will be attached to it. My current battery solution for my A7S is 6 NPFW50 batteries, but with the Shogun getting added, I don't want to have to carry all different kinds of batteries with me on a gig. My A-Cam will be the FS5 that will be powered by the BPU-60 batteries, and I would like my A7S (B Cam) to be running on a V-Mount battery. Here's where I need your help.

If I purchased the Tilta Universal Power Supply (see http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1007351-REG/ikan_bt_003_a_power_supply_system_for.html) for use with my A7S, would I also be able to use this with my FS5 later? And what battery do you recommend that I could use for my A7S + Shogun and later use it to power the FS5 + Shogun?

Thanks,

Paul

Not sure what works and what doesn't, but if you are gong to V mount, I would go with it on both cameras unless weight is an issue. In short, get down to a common battery so you always know what you have and need. We have used IDX at work for 12 years, good solid technology at relatively decent prices (compared to what AB batteries used to cost).

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to use it for either camera. I used that plate and you should be able to use the regulated 7.2v output for the a7s and the unregulated output or d-tap or maybe the regulated 12v for the fs5. Keep in mind the max current on those regulated outputs is only 1-2amps which is probably fine for those low power cameras but not for multiple accessories. Shouldn't be a problem with the right cable.

As for batteries, pretty much any v-mount is likely to power your rig nearly all day since those cameras draw very little power compared to most V-mount equipment. The Switronix Hypercore Slim seemed like a nice option given you don't need a lot of capacity, but there are a ton of options if you want more power for your money. The best bang for your buck is probably the Kayo Maxtars since they are like $220 for 150Wh and come with a travel charger... Of course there is almost no limit to what you can spend on the other end. Since capacity isn't a big issue you may want to stick to ~95wh batteries since they are easiest to travel with.

Only need it for my A7S at the moment as it will also be running the Shogun. My FS5 has plenty of battery life but once I begin to solely use the FS5 on commercial gigs I would like to be able to take the V-Mount from the A7S and use it with the FS5 to power it and the Shogun.
