V for Vendetta

Yeah, to be honest, the after party made much more of an impression on me than the movie, and I don't remember the movie in great detail.

But it was okay. The flaws were the same flaws Reloaded and Revolutions had, but not so intense. (Except the political/ideological bent, which was even more overdone.)

How was the afterparty? :)

Incredible film. Hugo Weavings voice acting is astounding and Portman proved to all of us that Lucas is dirt. The message and the relevance is priceless. This film kicked my a$$. I am sure there will be many people that have to deride the film because that is what they feel they have to do to stand out, but it really is a great film.

I heard a tool of a film reviewer on Mark and Brian who claimed that this movie encourages terrorism. That is so short sighted and is completely missing a point that the film makes about the ambiguous use of the word terrorism. The USA was apparently founded by a bunch of terrorist scum then eh? The review he gave was akin to Roger Ebert's review of Fight Club as a film about brutal pugilisim, huge missed point.

Anyway, I loved it and thought it was a very well done film that really spoke to me about the direction that things could go if we are all complicit in letting it all happen. Fear is the enemy of humanity and we all need to be more aware of how it is used every day (by every group, DNC, GOP, MADD, NRA, RCC etc.) to control our actions.

Ok, just saw the film... best one I've seen this year. The acting was great by everyone, and the look was awesome as well. I only didn't like the message being pushed so hard. I tried to not overanalyze the message, but found myself doing it anyway. Nevertheless, I highly reccomend the film, and it's the best I've seen this year.

Yeah, I do go into some detail about who I met in the other thread, but it was basically just a lot of fun. Everyone I met was very cool, very friendly, and very very smart. I know people like to hate on producers and stars and the business end of Hollywood especially, but everyone seemed really cool. Great food, and free drinks, too, but I should have had fewer....

I saw this bad boy last night. Loved it! Loved it! Loved it! Natalie Portman was fantastic and somehow Hugo Weaving made me care for a character with no face. That is a great actor, boys and girls.

I think I will see it again tomorrow.

what happened did ya barf on Natalie Portman? LOL.

I so want to meet her :love4: :love4: :love4: :love4: :love4: :love4: :love4:

I must admit... I am a Natalie Portman fan after this movie... she looked absolutely gorgeous with her curly locks of brown hair. I was soooo mad when they cut it off!

she was still hot though IMO. she has weird ears and when they shaved her hair i couldnt help thinking she should have been cast in LOTR.

Really quite good... I won't get into the comparisons to the book, but on its own I thought this was a fine film. It could have done with a bit more subtly (its as though they really felt the need to spell everything out, I would have preferred giving the audience a bit more credit) but really was fun to watch. Hmmm.... I'm gonna give it a few days to sink in before I say anything else.

No pics, I didn't want to offend anyone who was there by acting like a fanboy.

Don't get too excited about this one. It's beautifully shot, has some great sequences, but has a lot of issues with the muddled and overly-pedantic script. It's trying to be really controversial but its message is kind of unclear. You know how Reloaded got weird and made no sense by the end, despite tons of explanatory monologues? Now try to do extreme left politics that try and generate a lot of controversy within the same story mold. Doesn't work. The story world and characters aren't that well fleshed out, either. The climax is fun, though.

Good review, its exactly what I though as well.

I was UNDERwhelmed.

Yay! I'm glad to see someone agrees with me. The movie's slowly growing on me, though...maybe just because I'm forgetting some of the worse scenes and remembering some of the more beautifully shot ones.

As for people I met:

Portman is nice in person, but she seemed kind of overwhelmed so she wasn't up for talking much and wanted to chat with fellow celebs rather than me. My friend knows one of her really close friends and she was really cool (very very articulate--a Harvard grad). Portman looks just like she does in the movie except with something of a softer face (no low key lighting at the club, I guess!). She seemed to be having fun since they were playing "Toxic" by Britney Spears and she was dancing to it while no one else was.

Weaving was great. I wanted to compliment his performance but was kind of nervous (and drunk) and he laughed the whole thing off and was very humble about it. He just said it was a lot of fun. The beard is amazing, too. He's very charismatic.

Joel Silver was there, and he was friendly with the people he spoke with, but he seemed less approachable than anyone else (and I talked with the Presidents of HBO, WB, and Silver Pictures). I've heard stories about him, and while I saw nothing to confirm them, I could believe that he'd be a bit self centered. But he didn't seem like a bad guy at all. He wore the most outrageous shirt/tie of anyone, too.

I saw this today. It wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be. I still enjoyed it and thought it was a groovy film. It just didn't have a very big impact like say, Kill Bill had IMO. I liked how BTN was like the Fox News channel.

I thought it was ironic that the movie's theme was against opression, brainwashing, and the complacency of the people, yet I felt preached at the whole time.

I can understand how many people got the idea the message was shoved down their throats. I think that aspect was supposed to show the paradox of V, his was a mission of vengeance after all. Only out of that vengeance was the push to do something more noble was born, and this was catalyzed by Evey. I don't think it was ever his intention to pursue the climax, per se. Also, the heavy hand in Shakespeare reiterates this "outspoken" nature of the film.

Either way, I think it was a great film. It crafted the story quite well, and the characters were superb. Without Portman and Weaving, the movie would have not been as effective. I was very amused with some of the nods to our current political situation, as well as the obvious overture to Orwell's 1984.

Overall, I was a little tepid during the first act, but as the second and third rolled on my interest was grasped and never let go. I didn't even realize the length of the film.

SPOILER ALERT: At the end of movie when everyone unmasks, I swear I saw Orlando Bloom screen left on one of the first shots of that scene. Probably my eyes fooling me, but it definately looked like him!

2.5 stars

2.5 stars

got to see it on Friday. Over all i give it a 2.5 out of 4. it had some great sequences and the acting by Hugo Weaving was convincing, engaging and had me wanting more; But the story was too long. The editor should of cut it down a bit. It dragged in many scenes. Many of us wanted V to be flushed out more, like how he became such a swordsman and got these fast moving powers. Yes, i know he was injected with a virus but we wanted direct seqeunces into the evolvement of his abilities. I've been a fan of Portman since watching Leon but i think this part was a little bit over the top for her. She was convincing in many parts but lost momentum in many others. I would of liked to see Jolie in this role.

Gotta say it again V is such a great character.

i completely agree with noct. i thought it was alright, but there was definitely something missing. i'd still recommend seeing it though; it seems like the best movie out right now.

Good Blockbuster movie with a message. Its good to see these movies are still allowed in Hollywood, and not just mindless explosions.
