UX180 - Displaying Info on HDI Output

In case I'm just being obtuse and missing it in the documentation, is it possible to send the shooting data overlay to the HDMI (or SDI) output so it can be used as a viewfinder?

Yes, turn on VIDEO OUT OSD in the Display menu (I think, that's off the top of my head).

Some items won't go out the video ports though, like the waveform monitor or the zebras. But pretty much everything else does.

I wish they would fix this in a future firmware update. For my purposes it would be super useful to see the Rec Engage status which is represented on the the LCD as a Red Dot. Seems like a really odd limitation of the hardware.

Yes, that was my problem on the weekend. I was operating the camera by a long cable remote and couldn't see the tally lights.

I very much doubt this will be fixed in firmware. I'm sure they are limiting it because there wasn't enough processing power available to do it.

There are a surprisingly large number of features missing or limited in UHD/4K mode.

This was a major disappointment for me as well. A lot of the functionality of the dual card modes are also limited. Seems odd to release a camera who's main selling point is 4K 60P functionality and then have a large list of significant limitations along with it. I just don't understand how showing an On Screen display through the HDMI or SDI Connection would require any further processing power. I am sure there is a logical reason.

It's actually a very nice featured HD camera that also contains some UHD/4K functionality. Of course, that's not how it's advertised, but Panasonic's competition is guilty of the same thing.

But I did plenty of research before purchasing and knew about most of the UHD limitations. This OSD thing is only the second limitation that caught me out. The first was the very limited functionality of the waveform monitor that makes that function pretty much useless for me.

Because the overlay has to be generated a second time for the different resolution of the HDMI output. That said, I'd be happy for a straight copy of the lower resolution viewfinder or LCD signal in OSD mode.
