Ux 180

Now that stores are starting to stock the UX 180, I am hoping that we will see more comments about it's performance. If anyone could do a comparison between the HMC 150 and the UX 180 that would be fantastic. I would love to see the difference in low light, gain structure, and depth of field. I am curious to just how much more depth of field we would really get out of it (I realize it won't be like a larger sensor, I just want to know how much improvement I would see going from my 150's to the ux 180s).

I own an hmc and went to my local dealer to check out the UX180 and from my tests, its much better in low light. Remember too, that if you shoot in 4k then downscale to 1080, the noise will also shrinky dink. But I do have to say in a pretty low light situation it looked good. I'm importing my crappy test footage, just the dealers dark showroom, obviously not ideal but certainly would give an idea of noise, so I'll see if I can post something in a bit...

Okay here is the link to the footage, if you want the source uncompressed, send me your email through private message. It definitely shows noise, but very different from the HMC which you can see in the last part of the video of the speaker. The HMC is effectively a 720p camera that could record 1080p. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTEa4DufBb8

This is sorry excuse for video, but it shows very non-ideal circumstances therefore showing how the cameras deal.

Some, but not a tremendous amount. The chip is way larger in the UX180 (about 8x as big), but the iris doesn't open as wide, you give up about 1.5 stops because of that.

So, at the same f-stop, the DOF difference is a lot. But in a case where the HMC150 can open its iris further, that closes the gap some.
