GH13 Uwa-Marine water housing on GH1?

I'm doing an ad shoot that involves a small element of water shooting with a surf-skier and don't have a housing. Anyone got experience with the Uwa-Marine bags on a GH1 and any advice/recommendations?

It seems the U-A bag is the one recommended on their site, but B&H are sold out at the moment. Is there a different bag option? My lenses are standardised at a 77mm front ring, although I could step them up to 82mm.

Really don't want to stump up for a full water housing as this will be a very occasional-use thing...

Hi Ian -- looks like there are a few of the U-As left at Amazon or Adorama for $350. Looking at the reviews on Adorama, though, it looks like there's some potential for leakage and camera damage. Why not get a Go Pro HD Surf ? They're a little less expensive ($260 on sale at Amazon), people are getting some great video with them, you can sell it when the shoot is over, and you won't risk marinating your GH1

Good luck,

Bill

Aquavideo (www.aquavideo.com) makes an excellent housing for GH1. Mike Hastings, the president of Aquavideo is a GH hack enthusiast and is very involved in GH1/2 Stereoscopic development. If you inquire about a housing, tell him Dave Cole sent ya... he'll take good care of you!

I used the DiCAPac WP-H10 on a recent trip to Hawaii. I used it in the ocean and in the pool and did exactly what I wanted with no leaks at all. Its one of the smaller housings that fits my GH13. I didn't get the bigger housing because I've heard it wants to "float" too much and trying to get underwater shots is hard enough without fighting the bag. Here's a clip with some of the underwater shots I got with it:

SOLD ON THE DIGIPAC! What lens did you use, btw? Is this the 20mm f1.7? Also, which focus mode did you use?

Incredibly cinematic "family vacation video", Bob. I'm sure that you and your family will treasure it for many years. Well done.

Yes, this is the 20mm. It does come with an extension for larger lenses but haven't tried it. I used aperture priority mode, prefocus and your good to go.

Thanks. I was told by a friend I'll be playing this at my daughters wedding a few years down the road and will probably be crying like a baby.

Man... very nice video and great cheap solution. I used to have a custom housing from jim Bailey at www.waterhousings.com If you are going to buy a housing he'll custom build one and I really really liked that. he made one for me to accomodate my lenses and it was awesome.

I think the bag seems like a great option for the GH2, especially if you use that sillica gel and are not doing any rough and tumble kinds of shoots... Like, I probably wouldn't really feel to comfortable shooting surfing or wakeboarding with this.. but for average underwater... seems like a great cheap option.

Thanks for sharing your video and the products...

Has anyone tried the DiCAPac WPH10 with the Panasonic kit lens (14-140mm) on a GH1?
Will it fit?
Any possiblitity of a modification for it to fit?
I thought you could add an extention tube or something for it to fit a longer lense.
I'm interested in using it as a rain cover mainly.
Thanks for any help in advance

Yes. The 14-140 is snug but it'll fit. Its right up to the front of the extension so you get minimal or no vignetting. Also, don't use a UV filter. The "lens" on the bag has a coating already and together they create a strange effect.

Thanks for the reply & the info on the bag. I'm off to Japan in 10 days so wanted to pick one up for my trip if it would fit the 14-140.

Did you try that? I received the WP-H10 today but no way that the kit lens (14-140) fits in there. the diameter of the lens is bigger than that from the tube... sadly! I was looking forward to use it with the kitlens because of the IS. so now I can just use the 20mm and the 45mm Olympus...
