Re: UV filters

After some tests with my Tiffen UV Haze 72, i've noticed that i was getting lots of reflections.

What is the big difference between the "Hoya Super multi-coated 72mm UV Haze", the "Hoya 72mm Skylight 1B (S-HMC) Super Multi-Coated Glass Filter"? and the Schneider B+W ? (also where can you find this Schneider, it's doesn't look like B&H or EVS has it)

Thanks ;D

Re: UV filters

S-HMC or super multicoating is Hoya's best AR coating. It minimizes reflections with visible light. The difference between a UV filter and a Skylight is minimal--the skylight has a slight warm tone to it while the UV filter is essentially completely clear. The difference is subtle, but it comes from the film days where many photographers preferred a little warming, particularly when shooting in open shade. With the WB options on a DVX (or any digital camera), you'll be hard pressed to see a difference on tape.
Since the MC coatings are proprietary, different manufacturers have their own versions. These can vary slightly in performance and more significantly in price. Hoya's S-HMC is among the best and cheaper than many comparable alternatives.

Re: UV filters

My Hoya multi coat UV has saved my lens from direct hits twice and still is not scratched!
