Hello people-

Can anyone tell me if you can use an UV filter on the DVX 100. Would like to use it to protect the Lens.

Also if anyone can tell what size filter and how to mount it.

Re: UV filter

make sure its multicoated (tiffen are not) and that it is 72mm. It just screws on.

Re: UV filter

It's listed in their catalog... part #72TMCUV, "72mm UV MILTI-COATED", list price $80.74, UPC code 049383201086.

Multi-coating helps reduce most surface reflections.
It also reduces lens flare (internal reflections of stray light) to a greater degree than single-coated filters because the light becomes focused as it passes through the lens elements.

Re: UV filter

I emplore anyone to actually try and buy a Tiffen Multicoated UV filter... it just wont happen, if you can find someone that will sell you one, they I will stand to be corrected. Damn NDA's....

Re: UV filter

Alright, I have to admit my telepathic powers escape me at this time. So, I'm a bit confused, Zoom - why does Tiffen advertise multi-coated UV filters if they're not available?

Re: UV filter

They dont advertise them.... at least you should never see them advertised anywhere. Its kinda a long story.. but Tiffen Indeed made some multicoated filters back in the good old days... The company has had quite the last 24 months.... someone went on a little buying spree.

Re: UV filter

On another track, what do the numbers mean? Fot instance, I'm looking at a B+W UV 010 multicoated. Is this the right one?

Re: UV filter

Hey digitalphotoclub I've never heard of.. but for $30 bucks I highly doubt that it is a multicoated filter... thats the price of their "normal" skylight.

And adam yes the b+W is very good... make sure its 72mm (or larger )

Re: UV filter

thanks guys for the info, I think I'll get one to keep my lens from getting damage. $50.00 to protect or spend 1200 to replace?

Re: UV filter

anyone know if i should get the hoya hmc multi coated uv filter or the super hmc multi coated uv filter?

thanks!

Re: UV filter

I've got the S-HMC. I wish now I'd have sprung for a B+W, but the S-HMC is fine.

One tip: NEVER save money on anything that goes in front of your lens! ;)

Re: UV filter

The B+W MRC is awesome. You can barely even see the glass. Comparing it to my old Hoya there is a world of difference, the Hoya had tint in the glass (that I never noticed until compared to the B+W), the B+W is crystal clear. The old Hoya I have isn't MRC, but I was still amazed at the difference between them. Definitely don't scrimp on filters.
