FS7: Using the USB Wi-Fi adapter

I saw some other people asking about this. And some people might not realize the Wi-Fi adapter actually comes with the camera. I know it actually took me a while of digging to find the USB adapter in the packaging. (check the package with the manuals, there is a thin white cardboard box with the USB adapter in it.)

OK. How to get Wi-Fi working with the FS7:

1. Insert the USB Wi-Fi adapter into the camera (above the XLR jacks).
2. Go into the Menu > System.
3. Under "Basic Authentication", you can set a username and password for logging into the remote website. Make a simple name and password here, and we'll use them later. Or you can leave the stock Username/Password. I preferred to make mine unique.
4. Now go to "Wi-Fi", and make sure the first option is set to "Enable".
5. Just below that is an option called "SSID & Password". Select this and it will show you the name of the wireless network you need to connect to and the password you'll need to connect to it.

5. On a laptop, phone, etc. (anything with a web browser and wifi), go to your Wi-Fi settings and connect to the SSID shown on the camera. When prompted for a password, type in the password the camera shows you.
6. Hit "OK" on the camera to go back to the standard Wi-Fi menu. You'll see a "Client" item, this will show the MAC address of whatever device you are connected with (your laptop, phone, etc). Just confirm that there are letters/numbers here.
7. The next item down is "IP Address". Type this into your device's web browser.
8. You'll be prompted for a username and password. Enter the ones you created in Step 3.
9. The website should load and show all the settings of your computer and give you ability to record, change settings, zoom/focus (if using a Sony powered lens), and all that good stuff.

Hope this helps some people!

Josh , that is really helpful, thanks. One thing I just noticed about the FS7 is there doesn't seem to be any connection for a paint box.
I don't usually use one, but on some of my shoots the standard setup is to have a tech painting the camera while we are working. I have one crazy CEO thing where no one is allowed to touch anything once the big guy walks in, so final tweaks are always left to the paint box guy. These are people who don't want to deal with Log by the way.

I was concerned about not being able to do those shoots, but maybe a Mac with Wifi will have a similar effect and look even more advanced - "ooo..Hi Tek". Even in Log I guess it might be a way for the tech to shuttle between Log and LUT , or even Log and Hypergamma to show the client what it will look like.

Unfortunately one more option to test on this beast.

Does anyone know if there are plans for an app? It would seem to be no-brainer to avoid having to go through the browser.
