FS7: Using the Sony XLR-A2M with the FS7

Sorry of this has been discussed previously. I did a search and nothing came up. I am a new FS7 user. I have migrated from the DSLR world. I have used the XLR-A2M on the A7SII and A7RII but cannot locate any info on using the XLR-A2M on the FS7. I have connected it but I have no decibel readings in the monitor. I have checked the menu but no help there.

Thanks for any input you can provide.

I have the wireless shoe, so slightly different product- but I think this will still point you in the right direction...

On the Sony A7S, if you use the wireless receiver hotshoe, the camera automatically detects and chooses that input over the internal mic. On the FS7 it is not automatic. You have to go into the Audio Input menu, and for a given audio channel (channel 1-4) select the input that channel will use. For the wireless hotshoe, that's "Shoe 1", but for your xlr product, that would be respectively "Shoe 1" and "Shoe 2" as your audio inputs. Since the FS7 has two built in XLRs, presumably you're wanting to expand to a total of 4 XLRs, so you'd assign the four audio channels to "XLR 1", "XLR 2", "Shoe 1", and "Shoe 2"

In the long run, it would probably be worth your time to build your own User Menu and then you'll have a custom menu tree that you'll like better.
