I've only used the Sennheiser ME 66 in the past and I just upgraded to the MKH 60 but I have no clue how to even turn this thing on. There are 3 switches that are indented and I'm not sure how to access them. Can someone please help? I'm in a bit of a rush and I should have looked into this last night!

mkh 60 is a +48 phantom powered microphone.
There is no on off switch.
It is powered from an outside source.

Top Switch is for emphasis of High Frequencies

Middle Switch is for Low Frequency Cut (to get rid of traffic rumble etc)

Bottom Switch is to Attenuate signal by 10dB to stop overloading of input stage caused by very loud sounds.

Acces to them is by Sliding them Sideways with a small screwdriver, or a similar Plastic Tool. (to stop scratching the body)

Hope that Helps.

Thanks guys. I'm using an HVX 200 so I should just be able to plug the mic into input one, select mic (in the front of the camera) and then turn on channel one for mic power, right? I'm getting nothing except a little bit of feedback. Do I need to adjust anything through the HXV menu?

make sure the -10db pad isnt in on the mic.

are you trying to listen on headphones? or just out of the speaker?
The headphone amp on that camera is pretty quiet.

If you're able to talk into the mic, and the meters are barely moving on the camera..
and its not just a volume knob on the back issue..

Go into the menu, and change the mic sensitivity to the number closer to 0
(i cant remember if its a -40,-50 choice, or a -50,-60 choice)

But in all honesty you should be getting a perfectly fine level on either.

explain to us what you hear right now. You're saying absolutely NOTHING
but feedback? What are you doing to induce the feedback?

There could be a number of different issues here, so start narrowing them down.
Try a different mic cable, try channel 2 (and ch 2 phantom), try your me66 using phantom (no battery)
check all camera settings...etc.

Thanks Ripple.

I cancelled my shoot today so i could figure this out. I'm listening out of headphones and I'm having no problem with my me-66 with the battery but once I switch to phantom, I hear the feedback. I'm not doing anything to induce it.

Since it works no problem with the me-66 and the battery it can't be the cable.

The mic sensitivity options are -50 and -60 and mine is set at -50.

I really hope it's not the camera. I'm just starting this project.

Got it. Thanks for all the help. I just talked to the people at B & H and they said that since I just got the mic I can bring it in with the camera and they will help me.

I find describing part of the problem as "feedback" especially interesting. Do you mean you're getting a squeal such as you'd get if you held a PA system's mic up in front of its speaker?
