Using the HVX and DVX together

Hi,

I'm about to shoot a music video and we have two cameras, the HVX and DVX. My partner wants to shoot 16x9 but I told her that the HVX only shoots 16x9 natively in HD. Since the DVX cannot shoot native 16x9 and the fact that the final output will be for the web, I'm trying to convince her that we should stick to SD 4x3 and perhaps add a slight letterbox in post. I am a DVX user and I don't know much about the HVX, but can I set it to 24pA SD 4x3 with no matching problems along with the DVX? Also, I've been torn as to what shutter speed to set for 24pA. I don't like the strobing of 1/48th but the motion blur of 1/24th is a little too much. I know that when shooting 24 fps I should keep my camera movements slow and what not but is there a particular synchro scan setting that is desirable? Also, for the music video, my DVX will be trained more on the closeups with the RedRock M2 adapter with a 50mm prime Nikon lens. As for her HVX, it will focus more on the wider, establishing shots. Which brings me back to shooting 16x9 or not. I suppose shooting 16x9 squeeze on the DVX will degrade image quality and I bet that wouldn't be the best idea with an 35mm adapter.

Any answers to my woes? :violin:

Downrezzing and cropping HD to 720 x 480 is easy. If you don't want widescreen that's what I would do.

Are you really moving fast enough that you're getting strobing at 1/48? I shoot sports all the time and don't notice it at all until I get to 1/120...and that's only occasionally.

Not true, it does 16x9 in SD as well.

Sort of. You need to adjust the master pedestal on the DVX to be lower than the HVX, and you'll have a sharpness difference (the HVX is just a lot sharper than the DVX).
