Using the GH6's USB-C port to record on flash drives

As everyone knows, Panasonic recently updated the GH6's firmware to version 2.2, which lets the camera record on external media such as SSDs. In fact, Panasonic has a short list of approved SSDs that will work properly (and at high speed) with the GH6.

The external memory plugs into the camera's USB-C port, so I got to wondering if other storage devices would work with the GH6. And they do. Here is a video I just posted on recording to a Samsung thumb drive plugged into the GH6's USB-C port: https://youtu.be/z18jbo4aGEQ

I thought this was an interesting option, so I hope the GH6 fans here enjoy it.
 
I saw your Youtube video and it works with my GH6. I sent a email to Lumix Pro and will see if there is any respone at all.
 
I just did a longer recording on the flash drive that I used in the video. I recorded using a 4K 600Mbps All-I 59.94fps codec for 15+ minutes. It ran perfectly fine with no glitches, and the flash drive was only a little warm to the touch -- not hot, just warm. This is the flash drive I'm using: Samsung Type-C USB Flash Drive. I bought it on a "lightning sale" on Amazon for $24, but I see now that Amazon has it listed for $49. That's a big jump!

In any event, this is just a option that you can use if it works for your project.
 
I've starting doing a series of videos called "The Bobcast." where I talk about things of interest to me. I've only done two of them, and I decided to use the GH6's ProRes recording capability for the second of them. I shot the video in 4096x2160 29.97fps ProRes at 648Mbps, recording onto the little Samsung flash drive. It worked perfectly, and editing ProRes was quite smooth using the paid version of DaVinci Resolve. It all looked good, too. Here is the final result, which is only 2 minutes long:

Oh, wow, it must have been my streaming yesterday going in and out of automatic resolutions (this seems to happen when I watch on DVXuser and don't open in a separate window). My bad! Yesterday those colored shapes were moving, but watched it now on a hard wire and it's perfect.

BTW, the pockets used to fit many phones (smaller iPhones, BlackBerrys - which were my favorite - flip-phones, etc), but the bodies and screens kept getting bigger while the shirts stayed the same!
