using other lenses on 5D... as versatile as GH1?

hi all I'm thinking of changing my GH1 for a 5D as i'm sick of not being able to film above 400iso and carrying my 60d with me when I also want to take photos.

The one thing that keeps pulling me back to the GH1 is the baility to buy so many old lenses and use them with a cheap adapter. I am totally naive when it comes to how the canon cameras fair with this technique. Are there a similar amount of adapters out there to be able to use nikon fit, m42 fit etc lenses?

Even if these adapters do exist I expect full frame would make things a lot more complicated when choosing lenses?

all the lenses I use on my 5D are all old nikon mount lenses and a couple of mamiya.

The only canon mount lens I use on the 5d is the tokina 11-16.

The adapters are cheap ones easily available online. In my country it only cost around 44 US. Sometimes cheaper.

The adapters are usually not electronic so you have to use old lenses or those with aperture rings.

Check out the wikipedia entry on Lens mounts -- anything below Canon EF (the list is sorted by flange distance, short to long) should have an adapter available, as long as it isn't terribly obscure. Although not as many lenses will work on the 5d, you will be able to get manual focus wide angle lenses pretty cheaply.

GH2 is still a better video camera than 5d mk2, though.

FD adapters will have a glass element in them

myself i've never purshased any vintage that doens't work on EOS.... have you? i mean don't overthink it, it's not like we're running dry on vintage lenses here...

edit: btw you could always get 25p out of that 50.... the 720p on GH2 is basicly same quality as canon 1080p, so...

Gh2 720 is the same as 5d with cinestyle for dynamic range boost?
The thing is I'd use for photography as a hobby too which is why I'm starting to think 5d is the only option

For me the reason the 5d would be the only option ( I don't have one atm) is to enjoy the actual field of view of my manual lenses. For instance, I have 5 lenses at 135mm focal length that I hardly ever use on the t2i, outdoors. These fantastic lenses would get much more use for portraits on full frame (talking photography too).
Of course carrying a 5d mkII for street photography would be like overkill ;)

what. of course not. dynamic range on GH1/2 sucks. If you're into color timing then there's all reason in the world to keep a Canon, Especially now with cinestyle... no camera covers everything... if you're selling 60D+GH1 hoping it will be a major step-up with 5D, then i think you're in for a dissapointment... although i'd admit, going FF is very tempting (partially cus of the reason Kostas mentioned, one gets kinda tired of the crop factor at times)

i wouldn't sell the GH1 and 60D they'd be 2nd and 3rd cameras to compliment the 5d.

I'm basing my decision on a load of tests with the 60d (going to do a lot more today). The aliasing and moire is the thing that I cant seem to look past... it stops me clicking the buy button every time!

Shame you're not further north, playing with a 5D2 would convince you to either buy or not buy. Sorry, I'm not coming south any time soon :(

The 60D is no real indication of the 5D2 capability. Take the output from the 60D at (say) ISO 640 and assume you will get the same (or better) results on the 5D2 at ISO1250-1600.

I can point out the aliasing and moire a hundred times over. I can also point out lousy shots on just about any camera you care to name. It's all about how 'other' people view the footage they are paying for. They aren't looking at the production, they are looking at their memories ;)

Do you still have the HMC? The difference there is night and day.

The GH2's dynamic range is .4 EV less than the 7D in RAW photo mode, and from my own experience owning both cameras the GH2's video implementation is much better and actually ends up with a higher dynamic range in video than the 7D - assuming proper color profiles on both. So I wouldn't say the dynamic range on the GH2 sucks.

It's also pretty clear that the GH2's colors are more accurate to real-life than the Canon's, and in my experience accurate colors are much easier to grade than the weird colors (esp the skin tones) that come out of the Canons.

To the OP: The GH2's sensitivity is much greater than the GH1, equal to or better than the 7D's in fact. So that shouldn't be a worry.
