Using Multiple HMC150's

My production company just bought (3) HMC 150's and have noticed an issue. Love the camera by the way. But, we have not found a way to change the clip numbers so they don't match when we are loading clips. The manual has not given us to many ideas. Is there a solution?

If you load everything at the same time... then the clips should go sequential.. but if you do each one individually then you'll get that clip naming issue. I also will check to see if there's a log and capture naming option like there is with HVX. I think that in FCP you can rename everything.. but I'll check when I import something. I also think that FCP keeps track of them as I haven't had any issues with the naming.. This is something that the SD9 camera does... and one advantage that P2 has in that each clip in P2 has an individual and specific name

I understand totally, we have two HMC152s and I've resigned to the fact that I have to create separate folders for each camera's card, then manually rename the files before putting them all together. It's certainly faster than the old real-time capture of MiniDV tapes ;)

In FCP. you can rename as you go. fast, easy and simple or do the renaming method. I love the cam though.

I haven't tried yet, but you should be able to upload clip metadata to the camera, which will allow you to, e.g., prepend "Cam A", "Cam B", etc. to the clip names. See the metadata section in the user manual!

That is correct on the metadata and is the route I would take. Just have to be sure your NLE will read the info. Also, if transcoding, you want to be sure the info caries over (it does for the main concept transcoder). However, I use the AVCCAM viewer, is their a way to edit metadata on the mac?

I am the other guy with circlecmedia,
we edited the metadate using acvcam viewer and uploaded it to the camera. while all the other metadata changed in the camera the clip name always defaults to 00000 then 00001 and so on. you can drag the clips to the HD and change the names of them there np.

my other huge problem is spanned clips. while shooting an event last night we hit the record button on all cameras and let them roll for an hour. using edius multicamera to switch between them on the timeline. i have noticed drop frames between spanned clips. in the raw avchd clip the frames dropped by the camera between the 4gb clips was 2 frames. when you convert the files using avchdtohq to conver to mpeg i found i lost an additional 8 frames. i averaged 10 frames loss between each spanned clip. (we were shooting a kids christmas program) when you drop 10 frames in the middle of a song its terrible. our next test will be feeding the video in realtime via firewire (wow 3 cameras 1 hour per cam) got to be a workaround. working with the raw file not converted for edius is impossible the compression is to great for realtime edit and playback on timeline. are we the only people having this oproblem?

Yes we too have the same problem with lost frames on spanned clips, however our workaround is simple enough where the cameras are started a few seconds appart, but then when we're shooting critical stuff like ceremony & formalities we're always recording sound to external recorders. I agree with you though, this could be a real nightmare if you're shooting a live event straight to one camera.

What brand and type of card are you using? I am wondering if that could be the problem.

Did you change USER CLIP NAME to "TYPE 2" in the META DATA menu, as per p. 54 of the manual?

That's some good info about this.... It's just as easy though to rename in FCP and I've not had a single problem since the upgrade.. works just as easily as P2 and it's faster than real time on the transcoding
