Using Laptop for a monitor

Hello, is firewire the only way you can use a laptop as a field monitor? Can you use USB? I'm not really concerned with picture quality as much as a larger view of what I'm shooting when the camera's on a dolly. Thanks Craig
 
or buy an analog video firewire converter so take out the signal via RCA and then conect it to the converter and watch it on the laptop
 
fade:lang, do you know if there is still that half second delay as with firewire (ie: when using DVrack)?

I was hoping to use my Macbook pro as a field monitor until I can afford a Marshall, but I can't live with the short delay (bummer when trying to maintain focus with an adapter).
