Using internal drives for editing

Hi,

I am wondering if anyone has experience using internal drives to edit off of, and if so which drives would you recommend or are best practices. I have an 8core machine with 3 open drive slots.

Thank you!

i use the Western Digital Caviar Black drives for editing. on a side note, prices for hard drives is going up daily because of the shortages due the to floods in Thailand.

2tb is the largest... yes 7200 is preferred over 5400 especially if your working with HD material.

Using multiple internal drives is actually often more stable than using something like an external FireWire drive. Just make sure that all your media is on a drive that is NOT your boot/OS drive.

As has been said, get 7200rpm. RAID striping can be a good idea, but isn't necessary. Also, you'll need to get an external drive (FireWire is fine, or even USB) to archive each project once you're done with it.

Be careful and make sure you don't start using the raid as backup storage. If you have the original media backed up like P2 or SD cards on another drive then your safe. You can always batch capture and relink in FCP 7. If one drive has an issue in a RAIS 0 all the the data is lost.
