Liked the film a lot (didn't LOVE it). What was great was telling my 2 boys to watch and appreciate the way films used to be made...on film.
Before the film started
I talked to them about grain,
I talked to them about latitude,
I talked to them about gate weave,
I talked to them about resolution (although the original neg is about 4K, I've heard the film is actually viewed at about 2K after you go through the original neg, to an IP, to a dupe neg, to a release print and then shoot it through a projector lens - although, having watched a "Show Print" last night, it may have been right off of the camera neg., but I find it very hard to believe that anyone would risk that).
The kids were most shocked at gate weave, noticing now the image was never fully rock steady.
As to the film (NO SPOILERS): I really liked the structure of the 70mm roadshow version: first half, lots of great Tarantino exposition and set up; 2nd half: the pay off (more action than 1st half). Acting could have been a bit stronger. Except for Jennifer Jason Leigh who just freakin' nails it!
