Using existing HPX 170 to record audio for 7D

I am in the market for a 7D but I shoot a LOT of interviews and with all the audio issues associated with the 7D, I was wondering if I could still record audio to my HPX 170 to sync with the footage shot on the 7D.

Has anyone tried this? Positives/negatives?

Can it be done? Well, yeah.

The downside is that you have to deal with another camera, which used strictly as an audio recorder is pretty much clunky and unwieldy. If you're going to do that, you might as well use the HPX as a second camera and maximize the hours you'll be adding to the camera's counter.
