Using DVX100 as webcam while also recording?

This coming weekend I'm working a live event which is being filmed for posterity using a pair of DVX100s.

If possible, we'd also like to do a live-stream of the event to a private audience elsewhere.

I am aware that a DVX100 can be connected to a Mac laptop with Firewire (which I have) and can then be configured as a webcam (we would be using Ustream.tv to do the actual streaming), but my intention is to tap into one of the cameras for this WHILE IT IS ALSO RECORDING TO TAPE.

What I'd like to know before attempting this is if there are any limitations on the tape recording mode that the camera can be in, as in all honesty the recording is more important, and therefore cannot be compromised.

Any info from anyone who's tried this would be most welcome, as we don't really have much time for testing.

Thanks.

I don't know. A long time ago I used a DVX100a as a webcam, but only once. I believe I was running a Pinnacle DV500+ capture card, which has component (RCA) inputs. I probably had the camera connected through that.

I do see that Amazon sells a component-to-USB adapter. Wonder if you could connect the component outputs of the DVX to a PC or laptop using that? Here are links to a couple of those adapters.

Thanks for the replies. I thought I'd set up an e-mail subscription to this thread, but apparently not, so I apologize for my slow response.

I will indeed experiment, but good to know that the Firewire doesn't limit recording options.

This all assumes that the video person actually shows up to the event tomorrow, since she was conspicuous by her absence from the final rehearsal last night... :\
