.Using DVX as deck w/handheld mic

Am trying to do a series of video segments using a Viosport H20 "helmet cam" and my DVX100 as a deck.

Want to use a handheld microphone to do on-street interviews. Tried a Shure SM57 but I can't get an audio signal. Can't input to XLR because it's in VCR mode, so am using an XLR-RCA adapter into the RCA audio in jacks.

Using the Viosport's built-in (crappy) mic works, but I need to input a hand mic. Do I need a different mic? One w/phantom power?

Hellllp! Under deadline pressure and need to solve this ASAP.

thanks,

hey I did the same thing and found out the same problems. What you need to do is either use a small field mixer or a mic preamp.

All in all though, I ended up using one of those digital voice recorders, they have a mic in that accepts most mics, and as long as you dont get the real cheap ones they sound pretty good. You can also use a minidisc recorder, but that adds up.

Actually, since I want to record synch audio to video, I meant a mic pre-amp or mixer that's reasonably priced.

Any suggestions?

Ok, finally found a solution that works:

Bought a battery-powered mixer (Behringer Eurorack MXB1002), hooked up a Audio Technica mic, fit everything into a backpack, wore the Viosport strapped to a Night-Ize headband (fitted for maglights) and boom - went out and did on-street interviews.

Only problem is my backpack might be a bit too small but hey at least I got the shots I needed.

thanks for your help!
