GH13 Using digital zoom for focusing (with manual lens)

Hi guys!

I was wondering if any of you are using the digital zoom for focusing. When I use the kit lens the camera (GH13) automatically switches to digital zoom when i try to focus manually.
Is it somehow possible to switch to the digital zoom quickly when using an adapted manual lens? it would be cool if I could switch to digital zoom, using the fn button, but that doesn't look so easily doable.
Has anyone tried this?

I would be really happy, if someone could help with this

No.

If you touch the screen, it goes to 1:1 focus assist.

To enable the same function with legacy/uncommunicative glass, press the iris/SS wheel.

All my GH1 lenses are manual. The only method I'm familiar with is pressing the left <- direction pad button and selecting a zoom area with the central menu/set button. Then you use the direction buttons to move the area around, and any other button to exit the zoom mode.
While this method is definitely useful, it's by no means a convenient set-up for manual shooters. It can waste precious seconds if you need to set up a quick shot. I too really wish there was a quicker way.
Also not being able to activate it mid-shot is a drag, especially when using a lens set at f/0.95!

GH1 doesn't have a touchscreen.

On the GH1, you hit the AF selector, then menu. There might be a shorter way, but that's what I do.

The left button on the circle of buttons engages the "digital zoom" as you call it for focusing. Press this button and the Enter button to activate it. Half-pressing the shutter/record button deactivates it. You may need to have the GH1's focus knob set to MF for this to work. I don't remember.

Yeah, i guess using the focus assist function is really the best solution with this camera. Although it's sad that it can't be used while recording, especially when shooting wide open. With the f/0.95 it's probably really hard to focus (very nice lens though).

Indeed, this is one of the hardest things to get used to after shooting with Magic Lantern's magic zoom option on the Canon. Used my GH2 on a shoot for the first time without my Canons backing it up yesterday, and I found myself constantly nervous about judging critical focus without a little magnification window.

Using a loupe helps, but that external screen is pretty low resolution to judge with.
