using combustion with avid

what would be the best workflow for using combustion for color correction when editing in avid?

smelni, you may want to look at Automatic Duck, if you want to preserve your timeline and CC individual clip, not just CC a rendered out master, with dissolves/layers flattened. I have not used it, good luck. $, ouch...

is there a way to import a master but still correct clip by clip - I am very new to combustion but is there a way to limit an operator by timecode?

smelni, if you export a master from Avid, you will flatten your timeline. CC from clip to clip on a jump cut might be fairly easy, however, for dissolves, you will have to make decision on where to keyframe your CC points, representing clip to clip.

I stopped using Avid a few years ago. I only used *C a few times a while ago, so I can not provide any useful contribution as to how to reproduce the Avid timeline in *C. You might be better to look at something like Color Finesse, as a possible Avid plug-in. Not sure if the plugin is 8-bit or 10-bit I/O to Avid, though 32-bit for CC. Not sure what you are trying to achieve with using external app for CC. Are you converting your timeline to 10bit and looking maximise your CC or do you prefer the *C CC?

I do not use Color Finesse, though looking to try the demo soon.

well - for the areas that dont have dissolves - how do you segment the cc. For example - from avid you export clip a->clipb-> clipc - then import to combustion. How do you correct each clip with different settings?

Sorry, I do not use *Combustion. Depending if you use a *C timeline view or a layered view (not sure of all the options), you would apply a CC to each clip (if you say export individually a,b,c), if not, and as a flattened file, you would have to keyframe the CC in *C or figure out a way to slice the clip on the edits or load the same clip 3 times and adjust the in/out points to represent the jump cuts. If one file, no edits and contains 3 clips/jump cuts, issue is not to keyframe CC and have it interpolating the CC over time between each CC clip. If no slice of a master clip, you would have to keyframe start and end of clip and then keyframe again on the following frame, then start that as your new CC paramater. Hard to explain and this may not be the best method for these applications. Might be best to post this also in the General Software threads, as an experienced *C user might give you some tips.

If you are asking about how to CC, try <<here>> or look for tutorials on the extra disks or from the Help menu. Best of luck.
