Using Blu-ray to transfer files...

I have about 40GB of footage I shot in Haiti that I need to send to the east coast. They do not have any blu-ray drives. Can I burn a BR disk (data) of all of the footage and send it to them and have them read it? Will a regular DVD drive be able to read that disk as just a data file since it's not actually playing anything?

There are reasons in my head it should work, and reasons why it shouldn't.

If a DVD drive could read BD discs it would be called BD drive. No, this will not work. BD requires violet laser, while DVD drives utilize red laser.

P.S. I have a deja-vu. Haven't you asked the same question several months ago?

For $10/month you can get 50GB Dropbox account that you can share with your East Coast contact. Yeah, 40GB will take an evening to go up and then another evening down. However you can cancel the account at any point. It's been a while since I've checked B-R disc prices but I'll bet they are still more than $10.

If you do go with Dropbox pls use this link and I'll get a 0.5 GB of extra space for a month. https://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NTYxMDkzODk. Think of it as a thank-you.
