Using Avid xpress with still image

I have started work on a sound design project, and really need to finish the visual part of it. I am basicly compiling a kind of slide show, I've made all the images to go into it, theyre all in gif, bmp and tiff format, there will also be some mini dv parts too. I'm really new to avid and editing software, I'm getting avid xpress tomorrow, does anybody have any tips or if you can just insert these kinds of images into frames? I'm going to save everything as Vobs and compile it into a dvd, this is a whole new thing for me so any advice would be great. Currently i've been performing the slideshow, it's a kind of bookreading with images and audio, but i've just been using powerpoint and a clicker. cheers

you basically have 2 options:
-'import' the footage. This will create a movieclip of 10secs by default, and in the resolution of your project. Very easy, but very limited. You can't zoom in on the picture because your 5 megapixel image is reduced to standard DV format.

-Use Avid Pan and Zoom effect: throw some dummy footage on the timeline( contents are not important). Next throw the Pan&Zoom filter on the clip. You can keyframe pans and zooms as much as you like.

Consult the help ( F1) for details on how to use the effects
