using autofocus in f4 scene for setting f5 focus

I love this camera but focusing in 24p drives me crazy. Bought a monitor but sometimes is hard to use in cramped locations. Any reason I can't switch to the F4 scene file and use autofocus to focus, then switch back to f5 to shoot? As far as I can tell, focus doesn't change.

On a related issue, if I use the focus distance chart that I found on this site, does it make any difference where the lens is zoomed out to? In other words, if my subject is 25 feet away, and I set the focus based on what the chart says it should be set at for 25 feet, does it matter if the zoom is fully zoomed out or fully zoomed in?

I do it all the time, it works fine.

If your lens is working properly, it will make no difference what the zoom setting is.
