I am about to go on my honeymoon to St. Croix(!) and we plan to do some snorkeling while there.
I thought it might be fun to get a Gopro + flat lens setup for underwater footage, and by chance came across a bunch of old used Amphibico camcorder housings (Aquatica Digital now?) while scouring ebay, which gave me an idea.
I know Amphibico makes a new FS100 housing that has all the bells + whistles, but it is ~$4k and there is NO way I would ever spend that for the super infrequent use it would get. The used older ones are around ~100 bucks. Out of total curiosity, has anyone had success throwing an FS100 into one of these older cases (as in... pushing record, closing it in and having it record one long file until it dies)? It seems like some of them have the right dimensions (if you padded the sides with foam etc).
I know you would lose LCD viewability + would have to use a wide angle lens "blind", but to me that is exactly the scenario with a GoPro (sans lcd backpack) and the footage would look WAY better.
If anyone has had success, which model did you use? Am I missing something/not thinking of some reason this wouldn't work? I would obviously test the heck out of the case to ensure it was actually watertight before taking any risks. Thanks!
