GH4 Using an External Monitor to Judge Picture Settings

I just got a microHDMI-to-HDMI cable so I'm finally able to use my SmallHD DP6 external monitor with my GH4, and I noticed something cool. If I go into Picture Profile settings and play with the contrast, sharpness, etc. then I can see the affect it has on the picture through the live output HDMI signal. This was super helpful to me for finding the settings that look best to me.

And I think that I finally found out why my shadows have been so noisy. It's the Highlights/Shadows curve setting. I've had it on either flat or less contrast. But putting it to a higher contrast setting ( +2 Highlights / -2 Shadows ) eliminated the noise I was seeing in my blacks and dark areas.

So here's the settings that look best to me right now:

Cine-D -5, -5, -5, -3, +0
+2 Highlights / -2 Shadows
i.Dynamic Standard

Anyone else using an external monitor with their GH4 want to test this approach to picture profile settings?

Is there a way to monitor without seeing the effects of the curves and picture settings?
The more extreme curves settings throws me off when I try to adjust for proper exposure.

Related question, I have the same monitor. Which monitor preset are you using for the GH4? I only used the Canon DLSR setting and preset 1 with bigger HD cameras.
