GH2 Using an EVF with GH2 in ETC mode

Hi all,

I am looking at investing in an EVF to help me with my focussing and exposure, but I would like to first clarify a couple of points about the GH2 hdmi idiosyncrasies. I film almost exclusively in 1080 25p.

I know that people are using EVFs with GH2, but I've also read numerous comments describing various problems with the GH2's hdmi output. So I am wandering how well does the GH2 work with EVFs? (I am not interested in recording the hdmi signal, only monitoring).

I am especially interested in reports that there is a serious gamma/colour shift on the hdmi output which would render the efv useless for judging exposure. Is this still the case with the new firmware/hack and is this problem apparent only in some modes of the camera or in all modes?

With the new Ptool, is it now possible to monitor hmdi output in ETC mode? Is this working well?

If not, has anybody tried using the composite input on the EVFs. Would the composite output be adequate for the 800x480p screens that are found on most EVFs? Good enough to judge focus with peaking?

Finally, does anybody have any thoughts on the new Cineroid EVF4C?

Mant thanks!!!!

Really? That's bad news. Over on Personal View in July last year, they seemed pretty positive..

EOSHD:
'ExTele does work via HDMI I just have to change another setting to make it. Will post detailed results later.'

Was he too optimistic?

The GH2 is a grown up's camera so film like a grown up.
Viewfinders should NEVER be used to judge anything but framing and rough focus.
Exposure is accomplished by setting your desired gamma and PLACING your whitest noticeable highlight at Zone VII. If you don't understand what that means, you might want to study a bit of practical sensitometry.
I have had splendid luck focusing on even the crappiest flip-out screens using a DIY loup. Obviously there are fancy version on the market too.
FRAMING is all I want my built-in monitor to do. Way too much emphasis is placed on high res external monitors.
