Say we make our animated titles in After Effects and take that into Avid. What is the exact settings to render it out and import it in to get everything including the alpha background so its transparent where it needs to be? Just real quick, i totally forgot and tried almost everything but cant remember!

With Combustion I render out PNG sequences, I assume AE allows you to do same. In Avid, you need to configure your import settings to invert alpha.

You can either render out an image sequence, or use the QuickTime Animation codec which preserves the alpha channel.

Now, keep in mind, that for some bizarre reason the alpha channel values in Avid software are reversed. That is, a 0.7 grey colour on a 0 to 1 scale will be represented as 0.3 in Avid. When importing, check the Options dialog window. There is an option to reverse the alpha channel, which is what you want enabled when importing footage rendered from 99.9% of video and graphics software. Hooray to Avid for trying to reinvent the wheel.
