Using a still camera for a footage?

I have DVX100B and Nikon D50 camera and I´m thinking if it is possible to use the digital still camera for some part of my documentary. I´m going to document some paintings and I was wondering if it is possible to take a 6mp still picture of the paintings and then create some movement in post processing....just like the video camera would be moving across the painting to view the details?

Currently I have Final Cut Pro 5 and iMovie.

Go into wireframe mode, set the pointer to the start of the still on the timeline, set a keyframe, move the pointer to the end of the photo on the timeline, set another keyframe, then on each keyframe set the position of the photo you desire. When you play it, FCP will interpolate all points in between the two keyframes resulting a smooth Ken Burns effect. You could zoom in on a certain point , spin the whole still, or pan from one area of the photo to another, etc. It's quite easy once you get used to it and you get far more control than in iMovie with the KB effect.

Thanks guys! I will try this and then compare the results against using the DVX directly. The ability to use still pics with good results would save time on the location, which is nice.
