Using a shoulder rig with the DVX200

I have been practicing with the Acebil shoulder rig and am wondering how good one can get if one keeps at it. Is it worth the effort? I find the rig quite heavy and not exactly balanced. I looked on line for shoulder rig tutorials and didn't find much. I have filmed a number of parades and yesterday walked backwards in front of Bernie Sanders. It looked pretty good until I backed into one of his body guards! I like the freedom to do a lot of things with the shoulder rig, like suspending it from ones neck using the strap and shooting from the hip, or putting it on the ground, or tilting up into the sky while on the shoulder. I see news organizations haven't given up on the shoulder rig...you don't see them at a news conference with a Ronin! They always seem to have a tripod handy and I have learned to do the same. So, obviously it is a shooting style that still holds a lot of value to some people. One thing I have still to learn is to touch the user buttons on the DVX without having to fumble for them!

So what are your thoughts on using a rig like this?

I recently considered a Shoulder Rig and decided to go with a Monopod instead. I found this video on Sirui Monopods and thought you might like to see it. https://youtu.be/buuOtZazaFg The one I ordered for myself is The Sirui P-324S. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1024709-REG/sirui_bsrp324s_carbon_fiber_monopod.html

Thanks! I already have a manfrotto monopod with a fluid 501 head so I can easily exchange the camera between a tripod and a monopod. The thing about the Acebil shoulder rig is its ability to move with the action...so following someone, albeit with ninja like steps. There must be a reason why ENG shoulder style shooting is still very much in use.
