FS5: using a iPhone or iPad as an directors monitor or waveform monitor

Hi Adam Thanks for your reply.. shooting F55.. SDI Sub definitely has the MLUT on.. I think the dir would be even more worried without it :).. yes agreed it is quick and easy.. the AC also has it too his phone.. (not for focus pulling). but as a side note.. its very useful for the boom swinger.. ! he how checks the frame from the AC,s iPhone image.. I think they are going to set it up on his phone too now... re the over exposure look.. yes could be some setting.. but non that I can see in a rush.. its just a general lack of contrast and that very shiny screen.. and Im used to a better image I guess.. but yes it does work .. occasionally the picture goes a bit weird .. but its not a bad system if you need to be light and running around.. which we are not.. and have a very fancy Teradek.. so in our situation its a bit mad to be sending to an iPad and I,ll be getting a monitor asap.. but its a bonus for the sound guy for sure..

Interesting to hear all of your notes, and especially how Adam is merging scopes with the Cube signal.

I've been using the Cubes as an adjunct system for about a year. By adjunct I mean, I would never rely on it for a primary monitoring situation. I use Bolt 2000's to send the cameras to my station, where I distribute hardwired to the director's village (and others such as sound mixer and dimmer board op can access the feed). I broadcast on Cubes (previous 155's, now 605's) primarily for the benefit of hair and makeup. I'm sort of dead in the water right now because the Teraview app is pending an update to work with the new 600 series Cubes, so I can't speak to how much better those work. However--the previous gen worked OK, but not reliably enough for me to consider it mission-critical for a director, compared to the Bolt Pro's.

Just discovered a new thing today... watch out for possibly embarrassing text messages when using your personal phone as a crew monitor.. :).. we are learning alot about the AC,s girlfriend.. !

You do realise your obliged to post up any images of the young lady that appear on the phone....purely from an engineering perspective you understand just to check error rates on the WiFi link...

Dear Vultch

I appreciate your concern is of a totally technical nature.. in keeping wth the high moral standards of this forum and esteemed members.. the images are unfortunately way too over exposed.. and apertures appear to be wide open..
