Using a HDV camera/deck with the HVX200

I have a question converning other hardware and how well it will work with the HVX200.

I'm looking for a cheap, small and battery powered HDV deck or camera to be used as a:
1)deck to input HDV footage to a PC
2)output HVX200 footage to HDV tape from a PC for cheap backup/easy client delivery (yes I know I loose some quality in the conversion)
3)on the fly HDV tape backup of footage shot on location as it is being shot

For the 3rd purpose mentioned above is there anything techincal stopping me from doing this via Firewire OR Componet/Composite cables between the HVX and another HDV deck or camera? I was eyeing the Sony HDR-HC1 to do this. Heres a link:

So does this or any other small/battery powered HDV deck/camera have the ability to record in the HDV format from footage coming live thru either the firewire or component/composite input/output ....or is it reserved for SD only?

You cannot use an HDV deck for recording HVX footage. No HDV deck has high-def input. If you wanted to do what you're talking about, you'd have to find some third-party analog-input-to-HDV-output converter, and I don't believe any exist (I know that they can go the other way, but not analog-to-HDV).

As for 1 and 2, you have to pick your format. If you want 720, buy JVC. If you want 1080, buy Sony. There is no universal deck that allows you to do step 1 or 2 with both formats. Sony decks can only work with 1080i footage on the firewire, and JVC decks can only work with 720 footage under any circumstance.

No HDV deck or camera has component input.

They all do have firewire input, but they can only input HDV through the firewire (and even then, only their brand's specific version of HDV). No HDV product can take the HVX's firewire output.

Basically, you can't get there from here with today's products.

Thanks Barry for the well thought out response. Apparently all the major camera makers have given these issues some thought as well...
