Using 60i and 24 p on the same timeline

Im sorry if some of these quesitons are no brainers, but i am a little new to the dvx.

Any way, i am looking to shoot an interview with someone in which i will show some footage of this person speaking in a static location and then i will show some footage of this persons everyday life. Here's the thing; i would like to shoot the interview part in 60i and then his everday life in 24pa. On top of that, i will have some footage from when he was younger that i will use (most likely 60i) in the video as well. I was thinking about converting all the 60i footage to 24p. The next question i have is is it a bad idea to shoot 24p and 60i on the same tape if i was later going to convert the 60i footage to 24p? All suggestions are welcome and GREATLY apprecitate. Thanks!

Well, if you want the 60i for the aesthetic, then converting to 24p will take that away and will be far worse then shooting 24p in the first place.

If you want them to have two different looks (which is the only reason why I can imagine you would want to do this) then shoot 24p (not pA) and edit everything in a 60i timeline. Then render out as 60i as it will keep the aesthetics of both formats.

Shooting 60i and 24p on the same tape is no problem.

awesome, thanks for the help. So would you suggest shooting 24p or 24pA for this situation. I wasnt trying to get a differnt look wit the static interview, therefore i will just shoot 24p. Is there any problem is i converted the old footage (which is 30p not 60i like originally stated) to 24p inorder to edit on a 24p timeline? LIke i said i am new with 24p so i am not up to speed. I would really like to have the look of 24p but if it causes problems with editing maybe i should stay with 30p? Thanks again for your suggestions.

If you really want the 24p look, then shoot 24p and edit it together with your 30p in a 60i timeline and render out as 60i. 30p doesn't go to 24p nicely at all so this would be my preferred method of doing it. This way has makes no frame rate changes to any of your footage so it would be the best.

Although if you have a lot of footage in 30p, have you considered doing the rest of the project in 30p? This way you can have a full progressive output and aesthetically everything will be the same. If you want it to all look the same, as you said, then 30p is your new best friend.

Yes i did think about shooting in 30p but i thought that because i now have the capability of using 24p, why not use it. Is there that much of a difference between the looks of 24p and 30p? I think it would probably be safer to just shoot in 30?

Go out in your backyard and shoot. a picture is worth a thousand words, so thats 24,000 words a second.

Remember that the job will always get done best when the right tools are used. Yes, 24p is new, shinny, and special, but if most of your footage is 30p it seems silly to shoot 24p...
