Using 50mm 1.4 manual aperture with D90 HD Mode

I thought I had read about this topc here on this site. The PDF manual for the Nikon 50mm 1.4 af lens states that the manual aperture on the lens body can only be used with a D1-D3 or D100-D700 camera body, but as I said before, I thought that I had read here on this forum that there was a way to adjust the aperture by way of the manual aperture ring on a 50mm lens or other manual iris lenses. Can one of you knowledgable folks point me to the proper thread or if need be burst our collective bubbles, and verify that the PDF manual is correct.

Yes you can. Make sure the aperture ring is at f/22, enter LV, and then you can freely change the aperture on the lens. This will help, from Kholi's sticky at the top of the page:

this lens is pretty awesome, and its pretty cheap too, and the conversion is pretty easy to do, it took me about 20 mins
