Using 2 monitors to edit...

Do I need a special cable or splitter to enable me to hook 2 computer monitors up to my system? How do I set it up to have my timeline and whatever else on one monitor and my Canvas and Browser on the other? I will have to check some of my FCP books to see if they talk about how to set up 2 monitors in the meantime.

first generation Power Mac G5.... 2 outs huh? I could have sworn that I read somewhere that I could run 2 monitors off a one cable by using some sort of splitter. I could be wrong.

Here is another question I have. I was in the store today and I saw a 26inch LCD HDTV that according to the specs, can be also used as a computer monitor. It has the DVI-D port on the tv. For the price of $599.99 I was considering getting that instead of another 19inch to compliment the 19inch I currently have.

Hmmm.. the first generation G5's didn't come with dual head video cards?
I don't know of any splitter you could use that would allow you to actually utilitze 2 monitors (other than being able to mirror the monitors so they show the same image...which would be kind of useless for you).

As far as the 26" LCD - it all depends on the specs of the model you're looking at.

All the G5s allow you to use two monitors with the built-in video card. The trick is figuring out what adapters you'll need to get the signal to your monitors.
As far as I know, the first G5s have a DVI and ADC out on the cards. The DVI is fine for any brand, the ADC is only for Apple monitors. So, you'll need an adapter to go from ADC to DVI or VGA (depending on the monitor you want to hook up). They aren't too expensive, $20 or so if I recall correctly.

Good luck.
