User's Bits

I've been using my DVX100 professionally for 9 months, and just bought the 100a this week. (My pristine 100 will be for sale shortly). So far, I've never gone into the user's bits menu and done any custom setups there.
I just go to F6 scene file, white balance and shoot. I've gotten great results shooting various projects,( some of which are viewable/available for purchase at your local CD/DVD music vendor).

I've read the manuals but still don't completely understand the advantages to those 3 setting options. Can anyone hip me to the benefits
of those user's bits? Thanks in advance.

Re: User's Bits

If your NLE can decode U-Bits, it can be used to create extra metadata for logging purposes. U-Bits are even mre useful at 2PM, you will have a source tape that has 14:00:00:00 on it. The U-Bits can make that timecode unique by applying eiother a shoot date as in 040528 (military style) and the 2 remianing characters can be used to identify camera (01, 02, 03) or tape name. When shooting multicamera this is a huge help.

Basically you have 8bits (characters) to add to the timecode and if they can be decoded, they can be quite useful.
